Teaching your child to knit might sound a little daunting. It certainly did to me a few years ago when it was time to teach my son. I learned to knit myself when I was very young, only 6, but quickly became an ex-knitter by the ripe old age of 6 1/4. Knitting was hard for me then. It didn’t come easily and I remember it being very frustrating. I don’t think I’ve done one of these on a sweater before. It does pull in a bit, making a slight curve in the edge rather than being nice and straight. We’ll see if that blocks out. The yarn is mostly cotton with a bit of cashmere, so who knows. I can live with it either way. I’m off to find a relatively cool corner to knit.

Knitting is a great way to keep your hands busy as you lounge around all day, and there are so many cool projects you can make. If you’re new to the craft, I’d recommend starting out with a simple project like a scarf—I almost always have a half-finished scarf laying around for when I get bored. Here are the books I constantly recommend to people for basic sock instruction and know-how: Knitting Rules - Stephanie Pearl McPhee (pg. ) - a sketchy recipe for socks that I really enjoy and a generally great book on knitting! Getting Started Knitting Socks - Ann Budd - The best ever and most informative sock knitting basics book, extremely thorough, lots of options, etc. Highly recommend!!!
